This is a widescreen screenshot in 1400×900 (16:10) of de_cpl_mill compared to an 1024×768 (4:3) screenshot of the same area to see if there is a difference in viewing distance because of the aspect ratio.
As you can see there is a big difference in the horizontal viewing area, as the widescreen settings allow the user to see much farther on either side.
